Dear Faculty,

On September 15, 2014, your RMU Google (Gmail) account will be required to be enrolled in 2-Step Verification, an extra layer of security that protects your account from threats like password compromise and identity theft by verifying your sign-in with a pin code.

To support you in the transition, RMU Information Technology will have a team of professionals at Part-Time Faculty Convocation to assist you in enrolling your RMU Google (Gmail) account in 2-Step Verification.  We will be available in the Sewall Center on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 1:30 - 5:00pm. Enrollment assistance at Convocation will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

In addition, this week we will be available in RoMo’s Cafe on the following dates/times:
  • Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 1 - 3pm
  • Friday, August 22, 2014 from 2:30 - 4:00pm

Please stop by our table to enroll your account.  Enrollment takes approximately 15 minutes.  To have your verification pin code sent to you, please have your mobile device (cell phone) with you during enrollment.  In addition, if you would like to enroll an iPad or iPhone, please bring your Apple ID (password) with you.

2-Step Enrollment FAQ List:

Who is required to use 2-Step Verification?  All RMU full and part-time employees.

What is it?  In addition to entering a password to log into your Google (email) account, you will be required to enter a PIN.  If accessing Google from your own computer or an RMU computer, you can select an option upon login to enter the PIN every 30 days instead of entering it at every login.

There is a setup process to enable 2-Step Verification on your account.  See below for how to get assistance with the process.

When will this be required?  This will be required on September 15, 2014.  If you haven’t enabled 2-Step Verificaiton on your account by September 15 your account will be locked and you will need to re-activate it at www.rmu.edu/reactivate.

Why is the university doing this?   2-Step Verification is a feature that helps protect your account from threats like password compromise and identify theft.  RMU is implementing this feature to help secure student and other RMU confidential data, and to protect you from having your account hacked.

A bonus of this process, if you use a smartphone, is that you will no longer need to manually change passwords on your smartphone apps once 2-Step Verification is enabled.

How Do I Get Assistance for the 2 Step Verification Process?

To support you in the transition, representatives from the RMU Information Technology department will be available to help you enroll at the following events:

  • Full-Time Faculty Convocation: August 22nd, 7am - 2pm

  • New Faculty Convocation: August 20th, 10:30am - 2:30pm

  • Part-Time Faculty Convocation: August 27th, 1:30pm - 5pm

  • Thursday, August 21st: RoMo’s Cafe  1 - 3pm

  • Friday, August 22nd: 2:30-4pm RoMo’s Cafe
